Two Blue Lines
A new film from Monaghan Media
June 4, 2010
Monaghan Media is proud to announce the completion of Two
Blue Lines, a new short film produced by Monaghan Media in partnership
with Stockport Youth Pregnancy team, Stockport Youth Theatre and
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC). The film follows a
teenage girl's life as she finds herself pregnant, who does she turn
to? Where does she go for help? What will she do?
Two Blue
Lines was written and directed by JC Monaghan of Monaghan Media and was
funded by SMBC through Stockport youth Service's 'The Lizard's Lounge'
initiative, an empowering and highly successful new way of funding
creative opportunities for young people in the borough.
"It has
been a long journey" said JC Monaghan, "we started production on the
first of August 2009, and we were in pre[-production] in January '09.
Since then we've been in post[-production]. The low budget has forced
us to take up double or triple jobs, we've had to think of new and
imaginative ways to solve problems. These things have caused all of us
to learn many new skills, and vastly improve our old ones."
Two
Blue Lines will be released as a film to the general public, distributed
by Monaghan Media, and will also be released in schools and youth
centres along with an education pack.
JC Monaghan is keen to
dispel any suggestion that this film is an 'educational film'. "It most
certainly isn't an educational film, though I suspect the funding body
expected a pretty dull educational film with low production values, all
of us were certain from the start that this film would be that; a solid
'Film', which could, incidentally, be used in an educational
environment."
"History shows us that educational films are often
poorly made, poorly presented and cheesy, really, really cheesy, they
rarely actually relate to the audience, and as such are a massive waste
of everybody's time. I have no interest in making such a film. This is
a good, solid drama, with real characters, a proper storyline and
high-production values. We spent a lot of time talking to real young
people who've been through the journey that our characters have, and the
film is constructed almost entirely from some of the stories."
"The
fact that this is a young-person-led project, and that all of the key
creative people involved are young people means that the film really
relates to the audience, and our test screenings have backed that up."
Monaghan
Media are now looking at and developing a release plan for Two Blue
Lines, "We want the film to reach as many people as possible, we are
looking at YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, BitTorrent, independent websites.
We want everyone to see the film."
Two Blue Lines will be
released in the first term of the 2010/11 academic year by Monaghan
Media.
More information will be released soon, along with a
complete section of this website dedicated to it.
